L from Death Note
I've loved L ever since I first watched Death Note about age 10. He's so unapologetically weird and his big panda eyes and hair are fun to draw. I used to try and sit like him as a kid but couldn't ever get my feet flat or as close together as him. I was so confused when as a teen I saw that people in real life do actually just sit like that in some countries and it's not just an anime character quirk. Every few years I get obsessed with trying to do this perfect 'Asian-style' squat and I've got pretty close but raaaagh my ankle dorsiflexion is not good enough!!
Hibari Kyouya from KHR!
Hooray it's Hibari my favouritest since age 12 or something, though I've been a fan of Katekyo Hitman Reborn since I was 7 and saw the first volume of the manga in my local library. I distinctly remember leaving a comment on a Youtube video aged 11 or so saying I didn't understand what all the hype was about and why people even liked him because he's such a dickhead (he is) but then I randomly saw the light once I hit puberty funny that. He's a horrible person and he's so real for that. He also has a pet bird and a pet hedgehog who love him very much what a green flag.
Shadow the Hedgehog
Bit of a theme here with all my favourite characters so far uh oh. I like an edgy backstory and dark colour theme and a character who isn't afraid to upset other people and take what they want what can I say. Shadow is cool as fuck despite every attempt at Sega to ruin his image by giving him gigantic cartoon guns. His quills were crazy difficult to draw with a mouse and for some reason his right hand also gave me a lot of trouble. I'm not used to drawing Sonic characters that's probably why. Tails is also fantastic. At the moment I'm going with one character per franchise but I might add him later because's he's perfect too.
Stahli from RawDawg Comics
Definitely the most recent addition to the list but the misadventures of Stahli and Bingus have captured me like no other. It's a webcomic by RawDawg Comics about a toxic gay couple, Stahli (dog) and Bingus (rabbit). I love Stahli's design, I'm a huge sucker for big eyebrows and he's very sarcastic and a horrible person (he is so real for that). I haven't been able to properly recreate it here using MS Paint but the original comics utilise patterns and colour in crazy beautiful ways. Defo recommend.
Pikachu
Kind of a basic pick for favourite Pokemon but I dunno Pikachu is just so friendly and despite his recent horrible downfall in the form of his boring-ass 3D model always had consistently cute and good spritework. Plus, I like his original cry. Raichu is pretty great too but the best form of Raichu is by far the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon spritework of it. It's not as cool anywhere else. Pikachu sucks and I'd never use it in a game (except Kanto, where he is perfect and not frail and bad at all) and there are many Pokemon I like and would consider favourites as well but you can't fault this fella for consistency and he's so fun to draw.
Shimashimatchi and Mametchi
The boys. There's so many Tamagotchi I love but these two are so up there. Also site mascot so kind of have to include Shimashimatchi at the least.
